By the way, true story:

You dig, you are diligent, and then you find it! An oversize sweatshirt with an airbrushed portrait of Aaliyah and “JAZMINE” in bubbly letters on the back!

And now that I look closer, it appears that the name is actually Jazminé. My apologies, Jazminé. And thank you for the sweatshirt.

Lindy West was born an unremarkable female baby in Seattle, Washington. The former Stranger writer covered movies, movie stars, exclamation points, lady stuff, large frightening fish, and much, much more....

  1. This is an amazing artifact. But didn’t the Goodwill Outlet move like 4 years ago? It’s not by the main store anymore and I haven’t ventured to the new location.

  2. that is a ridiculously ugly sweatshirt. OTOH, I don’t wear clothes “ironically” any more. Though I would make an exception for a Star Wars iron-on (FIRST Star Wars) with glitter around the edges.

  3. hipster or not, that is awesome! rock it girl and let everyone wish they thrift scored!

i recently found a lil’ kim shirt at the dearborn goodwill…recently i was wearing it at the gym and some uber non-hipster said “great shirt”. no banh mi was consumed but wait, i am getting kinda hungry now.

  4. @6 Who said anything about wearing this masterpiece ironically? Clearly Lindy is going to wear it proudly and without irony because of her deep and pure love for Aaliyah MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.

Also, god you guys are such dicks! Let a person wear some clothes!

  5. Does that mean the tampon part was true too? I hope it was unused.

My niece works at a thrift store in New York. She got a purse there and when she opened one of the pockets there was something wrapped in tissues. She unwrapped it and found a used diaphragm. She tossed the diaphragm, used a wet wipe to wipe down the inside of the purse and put all her stuff in it. She has a higher threshold for gross than I do.

  6. There’s a Missy Elliot music video with her wearing something JUST LIKE THIS in the end. I don’t have time to figure out which one it/find it but I can picture it vividly

  7. This is art! Well, it does belong in the Ugly Art Museum next to the velvet Elvis’ and Velvet Leopard Girl Paintings. Great score – get that sucker framed pronto!
