Talking to local political types this evening, I’m hearing a number of cautions—and statements of disbelief—at the idea that the mysteriously-disappeared Gov. Gregoire is about to be nominated as Obama’s Commerce Secretary. The governor’s office, for its part, is staying mum until early tomorrow morning, when all will be revealed.

  1. Maybe her replacement won’t gut the university budgets at a time when everyone wants to go back to school (fingers crossed).

  2. Now she won’t have to deal with the eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano!

And she probably has a LOT of Boeing stock that will come in handy.

  3. @8: The city voted that down. If Ballard, Magnolia and West Seattle want a bypass so bad, let’s build a beautiful Golden Gate Bridge for them starting on Alki Beach and ending in Discovery Park.

    Gregoire with a cabinet post?

Seriously yo? Commerce? What exactly does she have for experience for this most important post?

She is incredibly not qualified to be Commerce Secretary. Hell she dribbled the Sonics out of town, pissed the Viaduct down her leg, and squandered our state surplus…

Ohh wait.. she might have perfect credentials.

    Nevermind.

  5. Seattle Times is saying she’s not there to get a job with Obama acc. WA state officials as quoted in the article.

So unless the Capitol’s lyin’, or the Seattle Times is lyin’ (both plausible), Gregoire will probably come back from D.C. with butter cookies or something.

  6. She wouldn’t take a cabinet post so soon after re-election. It’s better to be a well known governor of a state than a forgettable commerce secretary — as Bill Richardson would agree.
