1b4d/1235416576-feb_23_pi.jpgYou may have missed it on Friday afternoon or over the weekend, but something’s changing over at the P-I‘s web site—and it’s upsetting P-I staffers. A few of them are writing to me, and others of them appear to be in our comment threads trying to point out which P-I journalists are “THE FUTURES” and which are “THE PASTS.”

This all has to do, in part, with the P-I‘s move to outside link aggregation, which continues today with another link to West Seattle Blog. (Although, memo to P-I web site gurus: this link actually goes to the blog Ravenna Nation, at least as of 11:12 a.m.)

Here’s yet another e-mail from a P-I writer voicing her objection to the switch:

Thank you for keeping up on this. It is huge. I don’t understand the commenters saying “it’s only four links, what’s the big deal?” It’s the first time the P-I has given away its position of authority in such a clear way.

  1. It’s hard to decide which journalists are the bigger joke.

    PI staffers crying about giving away their “position of authority” (ha!)

    Or The Stranger for taking itself so seriously as to cover this in the first place. What a circle jerk.

  3. I guess I’m a little baffled why this might be “surprising” or “news.” I would expect any online model for the PI, after the print edition to stops, to include link aggregation. This is entirely expected–and actually it’s quite cool that they’re linking to “microbeat” neighborhood blogs like WSB and RN, etc. That’s really what’s newsworthy here: the rising of microbeat blogs as first-hand news sources.

    The Stranger’s print edition turning into a printed re-hash of Slog posts and Slog comments from the past week? Why bother even printing any more?

  9. Four posts promoting a story that better be awfully fucking insightful and informative. And be sure to mention that the top two links on the P-I’s home page Saturday and Sunday were to Seattle Weekly.

  13. I only count 2 today. I think the outraged P-I staff should spend more time working on their resumes and less time being pissy whiners trying to drum up a controversy when there is none to be found. Mabe your intrepid source can respond to “it’s only two links, what’s the big deal?”?

  14. I am a veteran daily newspaper reporter and I am angry that Eli Sanders or anyone at the Stranger would dare comment on any aspect of daily journalism because I am a genius and he is a hack. And another thing…oh wait, you wanted decaf?

  15. WHO CARES? Those that worry about media consolidation and few eyes watching our corrupt government. That is who should care. Journalism is not about clicks of a mouse!
