If you are an 18-year-old US citizen living in Washington State who is not under the supervision of the Department of Corrections and has never voted, next Monday, October 28 is your last day to register to vote before the general election. I’m not going to lecture you on why it’s important to vote—as far as I am aware, I’m not your mother. (And if I were your mother, I’d be more interested in pressuring you to get matching tattoos of a snake with dice for eyes choking out a baby, because that’s what good mothers do).
That said, I have less use for people who don’t vote than I do for my hypothetical children. And you’ve already missed the online registration deadline for King County, so if you want to win back my fake motherly approval with more than a comical tattoo, you’re going to have to do this thing in person—before next Monday at 4:30pm—at one of two places:
King County Elections
919 SW Grady Way, Renton
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. weekdays
OR
Voter Registration Annex
King County Administration Building
500 4th Avenue, Room 311, Seattle
8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. weekdays
Here’s what I suggest: Go to the KC Admin Building in the next few days, do the thing, and then head over to the Arctic Club Hotel’s Polar Bar afterward for a celebratory drink. The bar’s got a very The Shining vibe to it, and the happy hour (3-6pm) is excellent.
Then, once you’ve got your ballot, go read our endorsements and vote how we tell you. (Or not. I voted for my dog in a few races.)
