Hockey player Rick Rypien, forward for the Winnipeg Jets (who also spent six years with the Canucks), was found dead in his home last night. He was 27 years old.
According to Sporting News:
The former Vancouver Canucks player missed most of last season after taking a leave of absence due to personal reasons. The Globe and Mail reports it was his second leave in three years with the Canucks, and he had been battling depression.
The cause of death has not been reported, but police say it is “not suspicious.”
The offseason hasn’t been very kind—Derek Boogaard died in May (during he playoffs) from an accidentally fatal combination of alcohol and oxycodone.
Sad.
No word on Sydney Crosby’s troubling post-concussion symptoms? Get the feeling his career highlights are just about over.
It does make you wonder if TBI is a factor. The more we learn about concussions the worse the news gets.

Depression is a brutal, evil bitch that robs you of your life both figuratively and sometimes literally. If his depression contributed to his death, my heart hurts even more for him. Rest in whatever peace you may have finally found, Rick.
wow, if this was suicide he must have been in a horribly dark place, considering he was young, good looking, and in what was probably his dream job.
