According to Washington State Liquor Control Board spokeswoman Anne Radford, the owners of the Rose Garden bar in Lake City have officially notified the state that they’ve closed up shop.
On March 27th, the city filed an objection to the Rose Garden’s liquor license renewal application, citing a string of violent incidents in the bar and alleged drug dealing by staff and patrons.
Last week, the bar’s owners—Salvador and Chun Chavirra—put the bar up for sale, but it wasn’t clear whether the bar would remain open until it was sold.
Thus ends the saga of the Rose Garden.

I drove that stretch of Lake City last weekend. Man, it’s looking desolate up there. Many, many cyclone-fenced giant lots for lease, especially to the north. And the new shopping strip up there appears to be succeeding in its goal of destroying the downtown; mom’n’pop shops replaced by Panda Express, Check Masters, and other cheeseball chain stores. Lake City’s in trouble.
