Really, Seattle Times editorial board? You’re actually endorsing in the race for Washington State Republican Party chair?
IF the Washington State Republican Party wants to capitalize on the prospects of its best gubernatorial candidate in years, 117 committee members will vote Saturday to retain Luke Esser as chairman.
Then again, I guess it makes sense for the Seattle Times to interject itself into the otherwise obscure nooks and crannies of Republican Party internal politics, considering its editorial page is pretty much a mouthpiece of the Party itself.
So fine… I can accept that. But could we at least do away with the pretense that the Seattle Times has any intention (or ability) of objectively covering Washington’s 2012 gubernatorial race? I mean, their ed board has its collective nose shoved so far up Rob McKenna’s ass, he risks choking on it. So for the sake of fairness, here’s hoping the Seattle Times recuses itself from the gubernatorial race, and leaves the coverage to the real journalists.
Are you talking reporting bias, or just ed bias? If the Times cuts down on what little hard reporting it still pays for, the Stranger will have that much less to link in supporting its own purely editorial coverage.

Have they done this before? Have they previously endorsed on the Democratic side? If they’re doing both, it should be a wash.
Hey Goldy, I guess you missed the Stranger’s “coverage” of the mayoral campaign. The months-long blow job of McGinn in this paper actually became embarrassing, even for the Stranger. So this is a tad on the pot calling the kettle black side.
At the rate they’re going, we won’t have that rag to kick around anymore.

Hey, guess what…? The Stranger isn’t the Seattle Times, and has never claimed to be. The biggest difference being, unlike the Times, we don’t pretend to be objective.
The ed board aside, the Times’ news coverage of McKenna has been credulous at best, if not downright fawning. And that deserves a little calling out, considering their pretensions.

@6, “don’t pretend to be objective” is a big difference, but you can’t ignore that the greatest difference by far is the scale of investment in reporters paid for daily groundwork on a wide variety of beats. And as a forever reader, more and more I’m seeing the Stranger use its “don’t pretend to be objective” schtick as poor camouflage for careless reporting.
1. Unlike at the Stranger, the Times editorial board has nothing to do with news coverage. I’m sure Goldy will scoff, but it happens to be true.
2. The item you cite calls Esser the Republicans’ best gubernatorial candidate in years. That’s very different from calling him the best overall candidate, and VERY different from anything resembling an endorsement.

Yeah, believe that if you want, that the Times’ editorial slant doesn’t influence their news coverage at all. Nobody knows who signs their paychecks, right?
FYI, I’d bet my house that McKenna gets the Times endorsement, and that there’s absolutely nothing Jay Inslee can do to change that outcome.
Isn’t this sort of like the pot calling the kettle black? I mean, I’m on your side and all, but you’re so far in the bag for McGinn and pretty much anyone with a D in front of his or her name running for statewide office (and Sam Reed is the exception that proves the rule–hardly indicative of anything).

Back to your original post; yes, I about choked on my Wheaties when I read that drivel this morning. I’m about ready to cancel my subscription except my 44-year habit is hard to break, and I have a wonderful carrier (got the paper to my front door even on our snow/ice days, and only barely late).
