As I posted last night, the Seattle Parks Board has indeed rejected a push by the Seattle Parks Department to ban nudity in parks. In fact, the board has asked Parks to examine the feasibility of giving nudists a piece of one of Seattle’s beaches.
“We never know what the board’s going to do,” says parks department spokeswoman Dewey Potter. “I was kind of surprised.”
The parks department will monitor how clothing-optional groups comply with park permit conditions over the next few months—although it seems unfathomable that any nudist groups would be applying for permits this winter—and in turn, parks will look at the nine beaches staffed with lifeguards—Matthews, Magnuson, West and East Green Lake, Madison Park (betcha it’s not gonna be there), Madrona, Mount Baker, Seward Park and Pritchard—to see if any of them could be used for nekkid frolicking.
The parks board has not set a time line for the parks department to complete its feasibility study.

Magnuson or Seward both seem like promising possibilities to me.
Yay, naked people! I <3 naked people.
So does one need a permit first to be naked, or is it a whole group needs a permit?
Just making sure before I spread the word to my friends
I was thinking something along the Duwamish river. Besides it’s way too fucking cold to be nude in Seattle.
Why can’t this be the one next to Frank Schontz’s place (the Starbucks CEO …) – then it’s a win win for everyone!
It’s going to be tough finding something that will satisfy the “ZOMG – Nekkid Peoples!” crowd, since none of our local beaches really have much in the way of detached or segregated areas where naturists wouldn’t be in full view (the little pocket beach on Lake WA notwithstanding).
Perhaps some isolated spot at Seward Park might fit the bill, but otherwise – where you going to put them that someone else won’t get their baggies in a bunch?
Denny Blaine used to be a topless lesbian beach. Remember? The cops used to come around on boats and yell through bullhorns, “Ladies, put your tops on.”
I made a comment last night on your bike harrass horror story post (no need to point u that way).
Coincidence has it that a day after I arrived in my diggly small town – gruesome u-haul van trip; boxes bouncing over, suitcases clothes misarranged; ashamed at the mess when time to unpack (my new housemate watching) – I have the opportunity to attend a garden party. It’s being thrown by the city council 2nd chief of building codes. Other city concil peeps were there, Ya Know the ‘wannabe’ ‘boomer’ (forgive my rose-tinted glasses). Only there for 30 minutes, but talk ranged from nudist colonies, to hors’derves, to AUDITION (the only time i chimed in because i was familiar) where i said, “yeah, that movie is whack.” Of course I felt the common ‘mise en scene’ of slitting my wrists, dangling from a tree, suffocating to charcoal; Ya Know, the types of thoughts that keep me up on many 3 hour sleep nights.
Anyway, my housemate hates when I say Ya Know. Ya Know, there’s a study that women have no arousal on seeing a naked man. Many other findings from that ‘study’ as well. Lator gater
I agree with Dingo… Duwamish would be appropriate. The lifeguard beach at Seward park is always packed with children. And anyone showing up nude WILL get they ass beat…
The little beach next to Denny-Blaine (formerly Dy-ki-ki, sadly) seems to be the de facto dude beach already. It’s tiny, though, and it gets shady early. It would be nice have a larger beach where the girls could get some rare sun.
Topfree yes! Nude butts and genitalia, not so much.
There is already such a beach. Go to Carkeek park head to the beach, turn right a the rail road tracks. Walk about a mile on the tracks and down the rock wall. walla. I haven’t been there for years (hey, I am 50 now). Is it still there?
Why on earth would you want to go swimming nude in Seattle’s natural bodies of water? I wouldn’t dip an exposed toe in Green Lake for fear of disease, and the rest are just too fucking cold to enter without a wetsuit, even during the fucking summer. The only possible benefit would be to a polar bears club in which bears has the gay definition, or for figuring out who’s mentally ill before they hurt someone.
There is a nude beach on Puger Sound that I’ve been going to for years. During June, July and August it fills up with a lot of people on a good hot weekend. It is very poplar with no problems. I would like to see more beaches & Parks open up to the nudist.
I am coming to Seattle to visit end of May 2009 and want a nude beach to check out even if it’s cold. Can anyone help me?
