Behold, the voices behind “Seattle Views,” the P-I’s new series featuring a wide range of opinion leaders around Seattle:

Just the sort of people who are shut out of the media: Two congressmen, one current and one former chair of the Chamber of Commerce, several CEOs, and an ex-police chief.

But wait! In addition to nine white dudes, most of them old as dirt, they did manage to find three women, including one of color…

… A timber heiress, the CEO of the city’s biggest PR firm, and the wife of a former mayor (whose post today, in fairness, is about the only interesting thing on there).

  1. It looks a lot like the “staff” that’s still left at the P-I. What did you expect? Diversity? REAL journalism?

  2. Were it not for the PI editorials, I would have been just as happy with the Time’s news sections.

Without editorials, and a real news section, I’ve got no reason to look at the PI at all.

  3. Thankfully the Stranger offers a voice to wine thieves, otherwise that voice may not be heard.

Thank you Erica, your voice is a beacon of hope for people who like to acquire goods without payment.

  4. Dorothy Bullitt isn’t a good choice? She’s run Habitat for Humanity Seattle for years – she’s far more than a “timber heiress”.

You make her sound like Paris Hilton.

  5. It’s amazing how boring the PI Web site is. It’s also amazing how they don’t get that young people should be their target audience. Amazing = sad.

  6. Yeah, the new PI is a pretty big disappointment. I’ve looked at it every day since the print edition closed. I’m not into it at all.

  7. The Stranger staff is not diverse because their audience is intolerant of true diversity. Diversity defined by the Stranger target group is a Vivace person hanging out with a Bauhaus person or a Linda’s person going to Bacon Strip. I’m not putting any one down, it is just the truth. There is nothing wrong with marketing toward an audience. It keeps them in business. The Seattle PI is doing the same thing in reflecting Seattle.

  8. Well there certainly do appear to be 11 white faces pictured and one of color…. is the race word to use here ?

    The 9 and the 3.

That makes twelve people in simple use of the mathematical structure of letters… right?

Hmmm…. what can be said for higher education now?

  9. I’m with 14, but without the typo. I’d like to see pictures of the Stranger staff by gender. Make an intern do it. I’m curious.

  10. ECB obviously has no regrets for shoplifting. Instead of an apology all we got was a big joke, everyone at Slog sharing their own fun little shoplifting stories.

So I don’t think she minds if we keep on mentioning it here. They seemed to encourage building the theme, having fun with it.

Imagine if one of these P-I columnists got busting for stealing an $8.99 bottle of wine from QFC. And then the rest of them could share THEIR own stories.

That would prove that Erica is right to take such a snide attitude towards the PI, and the PI is just desperate to be more like the Stranger.

    Right?

  11. Diverse? The Stranger? They don’t even have a middle-of-the-road writer, nevermind a conservative. How many are married, or have children? How many own a home? How many might enjoy a good steak now and then? How many believe in a god or some higher being? How many are over 40?

And how many are of color?

  12. Wow. Seeing all the pics like that…

That’s about as ‘fair and balanced’ as another “news” source that shall remain nameless….

    RIP PI

    🙁
