James Anthony Williams has pleaded guilty to the murder of Shannon Harps, who was stabbed to death outside of her Capitol Hill apartment on New Year’s Eve 2007.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28th. He could face between 27 and 35 years in prison.
27 and 35 years in prison… or, probably, just several years at Western State Psychiatric Hospital until he is stabilized.

I was actually thinking about this case and wondering about the outcome just yesterday. There are no happy or just outcomes here. My only hope is that he can be medicated enough to understand what he did and do some kind of personal penance. The retribution of others is irrelevant to a schizoid mind. Only he can impose a worthy sentence upon himself. The only important thing is that he understands.

Shannon’s death was tragic and for those of us who were her friends and family, she can never be replaced and the image of her brutal stabbing will always be with us. 27 to 35 years for such a brutal crime seems like not much.
