Cienna Madrid is at Third Avenue and Seneca Street, where there was apparently a shooting aboard a Metro bus about 30 minutes ago. Officially, police aren’t releasing details, but word on the street is that a woman was shot (perhaps in the leg). The woman is not seriously injured, reportedly, and is still aboard the bus while cops keep an agog public at bay.

UPDATE: Two suspects—a man and a woman—have been taken into custody by King County Sheriff deputies, for what law enforcement officials are calling an accidental firing of a gun. However, investigators are looking into whether the man was intent on shooting someone.

Officers confirm that a female passenger on the bus sustained a minor wound after being grazed by the bullet.

  1. Meanwhile there were 141 car-caused deaths in King County in the last year reported (2009), and thousands of car-caused injuries. The bus will always be much safer than driving.

  2. @8: Really? If you’re worried about being attacked while in the close quarters of a city bus, you think to carry a handgun?
That’s quite possibly one of the least safe things I have heard of today.

  3. @9 it’s like the morons after 9/11 who thought gun carry laws should extend to airplanes, “for protection”. Nevermind that legally then EVERYONE, including stealth terrorists, could carry on planes, which would be the WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD to have a rolling gun battle.

Remember all the gun fights in Air Force One, Harrison Ford and Russian extremists trading automatic machine gun fire left and right? Entertaining film, but it would have been over in minutes when all that fire ruptured the 747 eight ways to Sunday and brought it down.

  4. @Joe Szilagyi

Mythbusters tackled that years ago. Firing a gun in a pressurized plan never leads to explosive decompression.

Not that I’m advocating for anyone to fire a gun on a plan mind you.

  5. @13 I’m not worried either, but I often pray that a fresh oxygen mask would drop from the ceiling so I could breathe deeply.

  6. americans, as a group, are a bunch of gun crazy nuts. that’s just the america we live in. and part of living in that america is that things like this happen. don’t like it? don’t leave your house, or become one of the gun crazy nuts yourself. guns aren’t going away in this country. not in our lifetimes. it’s just part of who we are as a people. rationality & actual probabilities about likelihood of injury/danger have nothing to do w/ it & never will.

  7. Must be another one of those bitter White Center 2nd Amendment Tea-Baggers clinging to their guns and religion on the 125.

  8. No one is forcing you to defend yourself. When one of these ghetto apes like the three teens in that story wants your iPhone just hand it over.

  9. @20, “Hipster homo” says the gun-waving nut who voted a straight Democratic ticket in ’08 and lives on the hill.

  10. Oh, and “ghetto apes”, says the gun-waving nut who voted a straight Democratic ticket in ’08 and lives on the hill.

  11. @13: My point is that if you are going to be paranoid and carry a weapon on a bus, a firearm is not exactly the way to go. What with how people are packed in closely, there’s potential for a lot of collateral damage (and God help you all if you hit the driver), and buses are small enough that you’ll be in melee range functionally all the time. I know I’m a knife nut when it comes to defensive weapons, but a knife or a baton is a much better idea on a bus.
    @19: “ghetto apes”
    Confirmed for member of Alleged.

  12. @23, “wants your iPhone” was another giveaway. Always obsessed with the iPhones, because we’re really all trust-fund kids with apartments in the expensive part of town with pricey toys and beliefs based in naivete.

  13. “Passenger Vaun Raymond said the suspect made a commotion when he got on the bus, making a lot of noise and causing a delay as he tried in vain to coax more of his friends into getting on and riding with him.

“With some people, you just know it’s trouble,” Raymond said.”

No doubt, you just know. But that would be racist so we have to just sit their waving our iPhones with the shit-eating grins that earnest white liberals wear right before they get robbed.

  14. Don’t be a pussy susanswerphone. I’ve taken the bus everywhere I go since I moved to Seattle 3 years ago. I’m a 21 year old girl who rides the bus (even at night, golly gee!) ALL THE TIME–up aurora, to the central district, the ID (and, since it’s pretty easy to infer that you are racist, I imagine those are some of the routes that would make you more uncomfortable). I can count on my ten fingers the number of times I’ve ever felt even mildly uncomfortable in the hundreds of times I’ve ridden king county transit, much less threatened. The one time I did feel legitimately threatened, the bus driver pulled over and kicked the bastard off. Never once mugged! wowee!
