Seattle police are investigating a shooting near the King County Youth Service Center on 12th and E Alder
Police say a teenage boy was shot in the hip during a drive-by shooting and officers are now looking for a man and a woman in a white sedan. The victim was transported to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention spokesman Major William Hayes, the shooting took place in front of the building, and the juvenile detention center is now on lockdown.

Police and detention center staff are still gathering information about the incident, but Hayes says they have determined that the shooting victim was not someone recently released from juvenile detention. SPD gang and homicide detectivesโwho are typically called in for shootingsโare investigating.
The age of the shooter in this morning’s incident is not yet known, but yesterday, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg issued a statement about a “disturbing increase” in the number of gun crimes committed juveniles. “In all of 2008, we filed adult charges against 19 defendants aged 16 or 17 for serious, violent acts,” Satterberg said in the statement, “and this year we have already filed 31 cases and we’re only mid-way through August.”

Obviously we need to shut down the Juvenile Detention Center, since it’s a magnet for crime.
Those six gun shots woke me up this morning.
No one saw anything? No police there.
Maybe we need to get armed staff at this facility in the future.
its funny how a 16 or 17 year old is an adult when they shoot someone, but not when they want to fuck someone….
just sayin’
oh yeah and its awesome that you can have a drive by in front of a jail, which is itself just down the street from the police station and they can drive away, no witnesses and no arrest, wtf??
3 is right, king county is fuckin’ worthless!
@5 – yup, time to cut the Sherrif’s budget in half.
Results matter.
And we can’t afford it.
the victim perhaps was being retaliated against for a few shootings and a couple deaths that he was responsible for.
The victim in this case was not a juvenile, he is an adult. What is more interesting is that there are armed guards and they ran in the building and locked the door. The kids including the victim were locked out of the building. It is also interesting that 10 cop cars responded before any aid cars came to the scene. Even more interesting in this case I heard there was one person who tried to help this young man. She stayed with him until police made her leave. Guess what her name is. Yvette Gaston, the same probation counselor that the police accused of assault and obstruction. Interesting indeed. comment by concerned citizen.
