Attention users of Twitter who are also readers of Slog, or those aspiring to at least one of the above:

As of mere moments ago, you can get Slog pumped into your Twitter in real-time by following @SlogFirehose. As the name implies, this is a wide-open spigot. The moment someone posts something to Slog, even by accident, there it is.

And there you are.

As always, please let us know what a terrible idea this is and how you don’t use Twitter in the comments.

Enjoy!

  1. On the topic of terrible and frivolous ideas, there is now a SLOG troll wiki (tentatively called TROG). Come join as an editor, help index the trolls, prettify the page if you want. Just be sure to mention your SLOG username when you request access to editing privileges so we can keep vandals out.

  2. lol, @4, actually you’ve shown you track me, not the other way around.

I propose SLOG establish @SLOGtrans for all things transportation or transgender (the mixture would be really fun) and @SLOGflamebait for stuff that has gay pitbulls or transgender vampires in it.

    Or something like that.

  3. Sam, Will in Seattle needs to be on there. No, he’s not a troll, just the village idiot. Still, that should count for something.

Add Goldy, too – he’s done his fair share of trolling lately.

  4. No, Canuck, I really don’t “do” Twitter. I mean, I’m registered and all, but only so I can watch the train wrecks (LiLo, Blago, Sheen).

  5. Well, you’re ahead of me, 5280. I signed up 2 years ago, long enough to put up a Wizard of Oz avatar, and still don’t have the slightest idea how to use it. I am “following” Slog Firehose boy, whatever that means…

  6. Canuck, I think it means all our shirts will look like blouses from here on…that damn Greenpeace report said Twitter’s shifting its data centers to cheaper-powered Utah from California. The downside is that their 8 terabytes of daily data streaming will be powered 97% by electricity from burning fossil fuel – 81% of that from burning coal. “Follow me on Twitter and See Your Footprint Grow!”

  7. Well shit. The guy who tried to blow up the shopping mall here on the anniversary of Columbine did it because he has prostate cancer and wants to go back to prison so he can get treatment for it. How fucked-up is that?

  8. I don’t give a crap one way or the other about Twitter, but I just this minute noticed that the Slog comment editing box is now RESIZABLE! Now that’s an improvement I can get excited about (even though it probably happened a year ago and I’m too dumb to notice).

  9. Oh crap, gus, that sucks. It’d be nice to see them setting an example, rather than backsliding. It’s a little scary just how attached we become to these things. I ran into town for a meeting today (proposal: “500m firebreak around the entire town!” read: no trees as far as you can see…) and forgot my phone, had to reassure myself, “It’s okay, you used to drive places all the time with no phone…” Jesus.

  10. That is a fabulous bit of stock photography you picked there, Mr. Hecht. Really captures the spirit of SLOG.

@20: Is that a SLOG feature, or a Firefox 4 feature? I got all excited because I thought SLOG added spell checking a while back, but pretty sure it was done by Firefox.

  11. I’m not sure what you mean by “resizeable” either, Fnarf. I’ve always been able to do that on the BlackBerry.

  12. Okay, I know 5280 and the trolls hate this but…I just found some of the kids’ Easter candy, and ate some “Popping Cadbury Eggs”…with these little exploding things in them…there is a party on my tongue right now !

  13. p.s. Dear The Stranger, thank you for the great big link at the top of SLOG that goes “Do you wanna switch to the MOBILE version?”

p.p.s. Double thank you to Anthony Hecht.

  14. @24, you are absolutely correct. Firefox 4 — I just updated before typing that and that’s why I first noticed it. So I’m dumb but not in the way I suspected — JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE.

  15. I am a shameless tweet whore, and not afraid to admit it. Just today I was bored off my ass at work, and wishing that I could read slog at work, wishing that @strangerpromo would give me a link worth opening. Now if only the Firehose guy was the icon, sans the objectionable shirt.

  16. @34 It supports a burn unit, too, so gazing upon their nekkidness is helping the community at large, and I’m all about that kind of help…
