UPDATE as of 8 p.m.: SDOT crews will be working overnight to clear roads. The city’s Emergency Operations Center closed at 8 p.m. today and will reopen at 6 a.m. tomorrow. SDOT staff will be available to take calls at 5 a.m. at 206-396-3053. The City of Seattle recommends that residents check online at www.metro.kingcounty.gov to take advantage of mass transit options during their morning commute. Icy conditions will exist, including black ice.
The Emergency Operation Center is reporting that road conditions have worsened on elevated structures. The Seattle Police Department has closed the following roadways due to icy conditions:

· The Alaskan Way Viaduct has reopened northbound; southbound it is open as far as 1st Ave. SDOT is working to reopen portions south of 1st Ave. within the next two hours.
· West Dravus Street between 20th and 27th Aves.
· Battery St. Tunnel southbound
· NE 5100 block of Latona Ave. N
· Denny Way between Melrose and Stewart Sts.
· 23rd Ave. E at E Alder St.
· Marion St. between 1st and 2nd Aves.There may be others as the evening progresses.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is working aggressively to treat them and reopen them as soon as possible. SDOT recommends that drivers find alternative routes.
The West Seattle Bridge remains open. Seattle Department of Transportation anti-icing plows are working with the assistance of the Seattle Police Department to treat the bridge.
Motorists who opt to abandon their vehicles are advised to pull as far as possible off the roadway so that police, fire, and other emergency vehicles can proceed.
City Light reports scattered outages, primarily on Beacon Hill, affecting about 250 customers systemwide.
I just waited an hour on Eastlake and Lynn for the 70—never showed up. All the buses were going straight to the terminal. It’s insane out there. On a cheerier note: Seattle Public Utilities trash collection contractors were able to pick up 95 percent of the garbage on their Monday routes. If your garbage hasn’t been picked up, SPU says just “leave it out at the street.”

I took the 73 from downtown that left at 3:30 and got home in Maple Leaf at 5:45.

Queen Anne Ave is one long slick. I watched three cars sliding and spinning down in the space of about fifteen minutes. It might as well be closed.
No kidding! Even the bicyclists are stranded, and that’s one group you don’t want to piss off.
Should be shut down: Bellevue Ave E as it heads down the hill to Lakeview.

Madison from about 18th-28th would be passable if people were driving with caution. They’re… not, so much. “The last five times I tried punching the gas I just spun my tires, but maybe this time it’ll work!”
Watch out for the vicious ice patch on the downhill just before 26th, too.
I’m amazed they closed Dravus but not Highland Park Way. Both are terrifyingly tall even in dry weather. And no Queen Anne hill closings? Its like they randomly drew from a hat.
If the bus coming toward your bus stop says “To Terminal” on the marquee, that just means “I’m the bus you were waiting for, I’m full and you’re fucked.”
I boarded a 358 at Third and Madison, with the intention to disembark at Pine and transfer to a 5. It was the last time the driver let anyone on the bus – I changed my mind had a nice walk up from Aurora to Greenwood.
Anyone standing anywhere between Union and just south of the Aurora Bridge was well and truly out of luck.
