The Washington State Liquor Control Board just announced the timeline for its legislative recommendations on medical cannabis.

Last June, the state legislature passed a budget rider that required the agency, along with the Departments of Health and Revenue, to identify legislative options to regulate the medical cannabis industry, which some claim is untenable now that voters legalized cannabis.

The state workgroup has been meeting in private since Julyโ€”and has been sued for allegedly violating the state’s Open Meeting Actโ€”and is expected to release its recommendations next month. Here is the complete timeline:

  • October 21: Provide draft recommendations to stakeholders for comment
  • November 8: Deadline for written comments
  • November 21-22: Present draft recommendations to appropriate House and Senate committees at Legislative Assembly Days
  • January 1, 2014: Deadline for delivering final recommendations to the Legislature

Stakeholders mail email public comment to medicalmarijuana@liq.wa.gov by November 8. Look for more on this topic in this week’s issue of The Stranger.
