i think it is important to remember that liberal fire-brand Nancy Pelosi’s house was one of the most ambitious and active in history and part of the reason they suffered so much tonight is because EVERYTHING gets gridlocked in the filibusting senate these days. so little of what they passed was passed through the senate do to the 60 vote threshold and the corporatist dems in the senate. the dems appear to have won a majority in the senate tonight, ie the power to block any house agenda outside the middle of the spectrum. the likelihood that a right-wing, tea-partying agenda sweeps us off our feet is as likely as Nancy Pelosi (circa 2006) turning this country into a euro-styled socialist democracy.
it was a bad night, but that ain’t gonna happen.
@1
I hope you’re right. If not, say goodbye to whats left of the economy.
For me, the US is on probation. If this shit keeps up, I am taking my skills and my family out of this dump.
@3 Don’t even get me started.
This is driving me to make it my life’s work to turn Canada into the world’s undisputed, reigning superpower.
@4, I’m already on it buy buying canadian.
Dr. G, it’s funny you’d use that clip, because I kind of do suggest you get down off your cross at some point. It hasn’t been suiting you too well.
ha ha middle america, we started getting really rich when you re-elected w bush and now we’re gonna clean up even more, but this time we get to laff harder cuz you’re out of a job and we can buy your foreclosed house for pennies! thx! p.s. keep those tea parties coming!
I misread that as “secede,” and thought, “but where would they go?”
And Canada doesn’t want to be a supahpowah, we are charming and restrained, and have things like oil and gay marriage…if we become a superpower, we’ll have to stop handing out condoms in high schools, and start worrying about our neighbours’ sex lives…eesh.
I’ve suspected that the Republican strategy for the past decade is to make Canada look good. No? Well it seems to have worked — you’d think the GOP would claim credit for something successful.
@4: As an environmentalist, you surely know that you will have your work cut out for you in Canada, unless you love asbestos mining (for shipment to developing countries) and oil shale extraction.
