Obama has already done more for women in three days than his predecessor did in eight years—vowing to sign the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, passed by the Senate yesterday, overturning the noxious Global Gag Rule, and reaffirming his strong support for Roe V. Wade—so naturally, Politico seized the occasion of so much awesome news for women (none of which is mentioned on its main site) to blast Michelle Obama as a “dangerous Democrat” for Obama. Not because her politics are too radical or her public behavior too erratic, mind you, but because anything she does short of being completely subservient, even silent, for four years—”a slip of the tongue, a too-frank statement, any disagreement with the administration’s positions”—will “reflect harshly on her husband” and be seized on by the press. (Elsewhere, Politico urges Biden to “urge his wife” to “button it.” Classy!) As Michelle Obama Watch puts it, “in other words, Michelle Obama had better be PERFECT for the next four years or it’s open season by unhinged ‘journalists.’ What else is new.”

  1. Michelle Obama is a dangerous radical who hates her country, and will use her influence to stoke the fires of hatred against white people.

  2. Lord Basil is an impotent lameass who hates his country, and will employ his trollishness to annoy the shit out of Slog readers everywhere.

  3. Lord Basil is a strawman sockpuppet. He has no mass, he is only light, kind of a trollogram.

    Nothing to see, move along

  4. @7,

He is. It was obvious when he claimed military families’ enthusiastically coming out to greet Obama in Hawaii was an “angry protest”.

Politico needs to take its own advice.

  5. Politico is a spinoff from when WaPo (aka The Washington Post) got rid of a lot of political reporters and columnists, @1.

Who the heck is Lily Leadbetter? Is that the woman who found out she had been underpaid for 34 years, but couldn’t file charges thanks to the Supreme Court?

  6. another day, another ECB tirade at some other media outlet. how original. i guess we’d be more impressed if your own “reporting” wasn’t such a joke.

  7. I’m just happy that the Obama administration is methodically tearing down everything Bush and Co. did, piece by piece, and the uber-conservative Bush lovers can’t do anything about it except shout at the rain.

    Beautiful!

  8. It’s best to read Politico very much like the Onion, and just assume that every time they say something completely bizarre and backwards, you’re supposed to laugh. It’s not always funny, but the Onion doesn’t always provoke a laugh either and it’s the giant in the field of fake reporting.

  9. @20 – once again, you take the official date and confuse it with when people knew layoffs were coming – which was a long time in advance.

But, then, you probably think all our troops magically showed up in Iraq on invasion day, and some units weren’t there months before even the media told you, huh?

  10. Will @10… wikipedia and all, but, short summary is, she worked for Goodyear for a long time, found out she was paid 40% less than her male counterparts in the same job, brought suit, won initial judgment against Goodyear, overturned on appeal, made it to Supreme Court, Supreme Court says you had to have filed suit within 6 months of the original discriminatory act (even though pay decisions are, by nature, confidential and she didn’t find out about the discrimination until many years later).

I saw her speak a few months ago — she has been fighting for this for a long time, so I’ll be thrilled to see Obama sign the Fair Pay Act.

  11. I was actually joking about not know what Politico is. My point is- who gives a fuck what they think? Just a bunch of goddamned bloggers. And not even our cool, Pacific Northwest kind of bloggers. But thanks, WiS.

  12. @26 – yeah, we love your posts, BS. seriously.

But they did actually start as political reporters, so one can presume they have more formal training, including journalism school, than most bloggers do.

The layoffs came in waves, and as I recall, started with offers for early retirements which some of the Politico staffers took, sensing the end of print as God and the transition to the digital technoliterati.
