Unbridled savagery:
Twice in recent months, authorities have raided operations where finches were kept to attack each other for onlookers who bet on which birds would survive the matches. …
Moreover, authorities worry about public safety. “The individuals who enjoy this kind of brutality, who attend these fights should be regarded as very dangerous,” [Tim Rickey, the ASPCA’s director of field investigations] says. “They’re the same type of people who enjoy dog fighting and rooster fighting. There may be drugs or arms, and criminal backgrounds.”
“Trends like this, once they get kicked off, don’t take much time to catch on.”

Next thing you know Tweety Bird will be pumped up on steroids kickin’ ass and takin’ names!
And for a finale, the winner flies around and shits on everybody, right?
Oh the humanity! I like fighting beetles. And Fighting Fish! And Fighting Illini! Does this make me a drug dealer?
You keep sweet, fluffy bunny rabbits together in a confined space long enough and they’ll start gnawing each other’s ears off. Just about any animal can be incited to fight – it says far more about the people involved than the critters.
That said, I’m studying territorial aggression in an animal behavior seminar – reading lots of rigorously scientific, peer-reviewed articles ultimately based on some poor grad student spending a couple of years getting hermit crabs or shrimp or something to fight.
this post should be filed under the topic “Humans” not “Animals”
LOLOL the wussification of the nation. One only needs to see where this is taking place.
Let them know how totally opposite to anything related with testosterone driven macho behavior this is ( because apparently they’re not aware of it ), and you’ll see the this fades away.
How long before Dan starts citing anecdotal evidence for a finch breed ban?
Didn’t Alfred Hitchcock release a documentary or something about this?
