The idea is not mine. Someone in a bar or some other place gave it to me. The idea had to do with Alaska.

No, not sending all of Palin’s followers up there to do their secessionist thing (a waste of a great resource), but instead selling that state to the Chinese for the price of the debt we owe them. All at once, we owe them little or nothing and they get cold and big Alaska. It’s a great idea.

Charles Mudede—who writes about film, books, music, and his life in Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, the USA, and the UK for The Stranger—was born near a steel plant in Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe. He has no memory...

  1. Wouldn’t it be, you know, not that great for the U.S. if China were to have territories and military bases that much closer? And who knows what would happen to the poor Polar bears.

  2. I’m sure this is a bit tongue-in-cheek but that’s still a terrible idea. We’re barely able to hold off our own government from raping ANWR. Think of what the Chinese would do to it. Jesus Christ, that’s terrible to imagine.

  3. The Russians thought it was a good idea to get rid of Alaska, too, and they dumped it off on us. People thought it was crazy for the US to buy that land.

    Then gold was discovered there.

  4. From an interested third party whose country already got screwed the first time Alaska was sold (“Where’s the property line? Why, it’s wherever the new owner says it is, neighbour!”) I cannot get behind this idea. Sell ’em California:, when the big one hits and it slides into the Pacific, you won’t be out anything.

  5. Dumb!
You do realize Pailin does not own Alaska, she is not their permanent leader. Someday she will be a footnote and someone else with far more credibility will be gov.
Also, Alaska is not always cold just like Canada is not always snow and igloos.
    Get real.

  6. Charles, usually i just chringe and move on when i accidentally read your pretentious- yet attemping to be funny- bullshit… nevermind. get fired already.

  7. alaska should belong to canada. Anyone ever been to hyder? Crazy redneck americans have no business being in our lush forests, enticing grizzlies to “viewing areas” so fat tourists can take pictures and accustom the bears to humans.

  8. being FROM Alaska
    and currently LIVING in Alaska
I’d rather not be sold to China..
    thanks.
    aaaand
not all Alaskans are for Palin.
I’m not. at all.. keep her our Governor.. not everyone’s VP
