CNN has posted a fun interactive map of America’s changing population. King County, for example, has nearly 2 million people. Pierce County and Snohomish County combine to make 1.4 millionโ€”this is almost the population of Gaza. Kitsap county and Thurston County combine to make 500,000 souls. Grant County has 10,000 rural types.

  3. @4, except that you’re wrong. The population of suburban areas is growing much faster than that of cities. Seattle used to be almost all of King County; now it’s less than a third, and it’s growing at half the rate of the suburbs. And the suburbs of Seattle extend out across many counties now. When people talk of increased urbanization, they are referring mostly to suburbs, not central cities.
