This is the end of a CSM article that’s mostly about people who are opposed to the way the king of terror was buried (some say it was inconsiderate, others say it was too considerate):

Khalid Latif, New York University chaplain and executive director of the university’s Islamic Center, said in a column for CNN that sharia law also takes into consideration what is best for society — and when held up to that standard, bin Laden’s burial at sea does follow Islamic law.

Humanity on a whole has a right that needs to be considered in regard to bin Laden’s burial. Who would want this man buried next to their loved one? Is it appropriate, especially after he has caused such pain to so many, to put anyone in a situation where they might have to be buried near or next to him?

It also protects his body, Mr. Latif wrote. If bin Laden was buried on land and the location of his body was discovered, there would be the risk not only of the burial site offering an “opportunity for glorification of bin Laden” but also of it being targeted by people still angry over his actions in life

In my opinion, this—the burial at sea and the thinking behind it—is the most fascinating part of bin Laden’s end. The body became a huge problem. The state had to do something with the bloody body. Is this not the very matter at the heart of the Greek tragedy Antigone? Way back when is the same as right now: What’s to be done with the body? All of this brings to my mind a line from a tune by the great South African singer Ray Phiri: “I’m as difficult as a dead man.”

Charles Mudede—who writes about film, books, music, and his life in Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, the USA, and the UK for The Stranger—was born near a steel plant in Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe. He has no memory...

  1. This was the only part of the whole thing that smelled fishy to me. Awfully convenient that, after all these years, he’s finally killed and then shazam! the body’s gone.

After reading what was behind their decision, I’ve got to say it was a smart move, but they’re going to have to produce some photos if they want to convince the skeptics.

  2. The US Gov’t has said they took both photographs and DNA samples from the body before dumping it; I’m sure they took other biometrics as well. Anyone who can be convinced by those will; anyone who can’t be convinced by those wouldn’t be convinced by being shown the body, either.

  3. I’m just glad it was Obama Administration in charge as they figured out a solution to the body situation, not Bush. I don’t know what the Bush Administration would have come up with, but surely they would have bungled it somehow and it would have been fucking embarrassing for America. And probably insulting to Muslims the world over, as well.

  4. Either he’s feeding the fishies in the Arabian gulf or he’s in a sub-sub basement in Romania or some such off-the-map CIA site. Interesting how there’s now a “treasure trove” of info on his hard drives. Seems pretty amateur of a guy like Osama, perhaps that’s cover for what they’re squeezing out of the guy.

  5. @4, when I grow up, I wanna be just like you: Crazy as a fucking bedbug, completely full of shit, and seeing conspiracy theories everywhere.

Oh, wait. I’m already probably twice your age. But you’re still full of shit.

  6. Listen up, peckerhead. Until you address the actual post, and my response to it, I don’t really give two shits what you have to say. Everything you said was irrelevant. Maybe true; maybe not. The only person who cares is you.

  7. Don’t believe the lies. Bin Laden was a CIA patsy and NOT the mastermind of 9/11. Even the FBI admits they have insufficient evidence to connect him to 9/11, thus 9/11 is not mentioned on his FBI 10 most wanted profile. Pakistani intelligence and the late Benazir Bhutto had previously stated that OBL died of kidney failure years ago. Of course it doesn’t really matter when he died because he’s just a state sanctioned boogeyman, but such bullshit does serve the purpose of creating a distraction and helping Obama get reelected. Why else would they dispose of the body so quickly while releasing such shoddy evidence and multiple conflicting stories about how they killed him? It also sets the stage nicely for future false flag operations.

  8. “Even the FBI admits they have insufficient evidence to connect him to 9/11”
