The DNC has gotten a lot better about its messaging over the last four years. This short ad, for instance, talks about all the things that did not get discussed during last night’s debate:

Good show, Democrats.

  1. Cute video, but it’s the definition of cherry-picking. I watched the whole debate (for my job), and while, of course, the candidates didn’t mention “middle class,” since they’re Republicans, they spent a huge chunk of the debate talking about the economy and jobs. Those funny answers were prompted by the very specific questions they were asked — about Palin, sharia law, and space exploration.

  2. Real Taliban like the GOP hate cherries, because they fall down and get eaten by poor Americans.

This is why they use the word “cherry-picking” which they want to reserve only for slave labor.

  3. @1: “they spent a huge chunk of the debate talking about the economy and jobs”

And they offered shit. The points made were “remove corporate taxes”, “privatize everything we conceivably can”, “destroy NASA, the FDA, and the EPA”, and “Obamacare will remove 800,000 jobs”.

Sure they talked about the economy, but that doesn’t mean that they actually talked about creating jobs.

  4. @1: Cherry-picking comments is what the GOP and Fox “News” do all the time. It’s about time the Democrats learned how to play this game and started applying to their campaign strategies.

  5. No doubt that they didn’t offer any plans to fix the economy or create jobs. I’m just saying that folks should cast a critical eye even on content produced by groups they, in general, agree with.

  6. Unfortunately, looks like the democrats are embracing the need to win the support of the ignorant and uninformed. Watch out republicans, they’re going after your base!

  7. The first time I watched this, I thought Cain said he does not believe in ‘surreal’ law. No setting your giraffes aflame, people, that’s illegal.

Though I guess surreal law is just as relevant to contemporary political discourse in America as Sharia law is.

  8. I like that Democrats level the “what’s ur solution” meme at Republicans while Democrats carry on wealth-worshipping, unemployed-punishing Republican policies in the midst of a double dip recession going on depression.

  9. As cathartic as this vid feels, it’s lazy. The Dems can–and do–beat the piss out of the GOP whenever they are given the opportunity to actually debate a topic. Making a video like this just gives their base a feeling of “yeah, git ’em!” I’m not necessarily against that, but I think that gives the potential for more harm than good.

  10. @12, the problem with the Dems has been that they always expect to be able to actually “debate a topic”. Campaigns don’t involve debates anymore; this isn’t school back in the 1890s. You get your point across fast and with a punch (or humor, or both) or you don’t get it across. “Git ’em!” may energize a few people who might otherwise not vote, or vote for a third party, or actually vote for a Republican while holding their nose.

  11. Newt Gingrich thinks that if space exploration had been privatized, we’d have moon bases and all sorts of space stations by now.
As an anon on /sci/ cannily pointed out, nobody in the government has been stopping private companies from exploring space, hence space exploration IS privatized.
