People like this woman deal in a lower-level, animal, predatory instinct. Where they smell fear, they smell prey. Like dealing with a mountain lion, you have to show them that you’re neither a threat nor prey. Instill that respect and reciprocate with respect. Where they fail to respond to reason, we have to at least interact at an emotional level. Simply ignoring them and hoping they’ll go away won’t work anymore.

It’s people like this, which are pretty much the only Christians the media chooses to focus on, who give Christianity as a whole a bad name.
When the only criteria for electing the leader of the country, a country that claims to espouse freedom of religion (or lack of religion), is “Faith in the Lord”, that’s just pathetic. She can’t articulate one issue where she favors McCain’s point of view?
For the record, if any of you care, there are about twice as many Obama supporters (if not more) in my congregation than there are McCain supporters. Granted, we are a very small church in a very Republican city in the deep, deep South, but we are all talking about and thinking about the issues.
Though I have to admit, it makes me sad that so many of the high school and college students in the Sunday school class I teach support McCain, even if their parents don’t. It isn’t my place to persuade them politically, but I try to encourage them to research and think about the issues – and yes, to pray about it, too. But thinking always comes first, because, frankly, I believe intellect is a gift from God that should not be neglected. It’s really sad that so many Christians don’t hold that belief.

I think there’s something to be said for respecting opinions and for meeting people at their level, but when those people are acting against you and their own rational self-interest — what are you supposed to do?
I don’t think this woman is motivated by religious belief — she’s motivated by laziness, spite, and an unwillingness to think for herself.

It is unfortunate that this woman has made a decision the grasp to her fear of the unknown. She clearly is a lamb being led to slaughter and does not even know it. If she could let go of some of the fear she might be able to lose some of of that extra weight…which is a clear indication that she is not a balanced individual. She is stuck and would rather accept what she is told with no thought or insight. I hope the best for her as she will soon see that her views are the of the minority.
