McCain says his gloves are coming off tonight at the debate. They’ve already come off on today’s installment of The View:

(See, esp., 1:45 and 3:00.)

Eli Sanders was The Stranger's associate editor. His book, "While the City Slept," was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He once did this and once won...

  1. That whole clip after about 1:30 is awesome… Sherri Shepherd giving it to Elizabeth at 3:30, Barbara at 4:00. What on earth am I going to do when this election is over? Even The View and Katie Couric have become relevant and entertaining…

  2. But Obama. We know he’s capable of fighting. But will he? Or will he roll over, thinking that he can merely rise above incessant attacks on his character? I guess we’ll see.

  3. it’ll be great if she leaves the View and moves here to be with her hubby, then we can torment her daily–if someone wants to move over to Woodinville that is.

  4. she’s not married to matt hasselbeck, has been, she married to his brother, tim, a former quarterback who most recently played for arizona.

  5. @5—She’s not married to the Seattle QB, she’s married to his brother…so Woodinville is an unlikely destination.

  6. E. Hasselbeck is a twit. She actually said the financial crisis was due to Democrats giving out subprime loans-LOL! She looks ridiculous and silly playing that Republican victimhood role.

  7. By her own rhetoric, doesn’t her association with the Seattle QB make them as good as married also?

Someone should inform her that duplicitous matrimony is akin to terrorism in some circles.

  8. Elizabeth H. is as dumb as a bag of hammers. She’s from the “If I’m Shrill, Then It Must Be True” school of broadcasting!

  9. barbara, the keating 5 is as relevant as anything. you said yourself that ‘people are terrified’.

from what? ECONOMIC TERRORISM perpetrated by ECONOMIC TERRORISTS.

    its ayres that’s irrelevant.

  10. I hate to admit this, but I would totally fuck that Hasslebeck broad.

Also, bravo to Baba Wawa for putting everything in perspective.

  11. I thought it was a good discussion. (Full disclosure: I’ve never seen “The View” or any part of it before.) One thing I don’t agree with is BW’s equation of partisanship with “mudslinging.” There’s nothing wrong with partisanship. It’s why we have political parties to start with. (“Party” = ‘partisan,’ same root word.)

People who say they’re ‘non-partisan’ and try to make a virtue of it are in denial, and terrified that their opinions might offend somebody. So what? I doubt there’s any regular SLOG reader who’s afraid of opinionated speech.

  12. I look forward to when we have President Obama and the Socialist Republicans have gone off into the wilderness for forty years, so we can stop having token “conservatives” on shows.

    Really.

    Enough with the lame morons!
