PI:
PUYALLUP, Wash. — A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Sunday night at the rail station in Puyallup (pew-AL’-up).
Police Lt. Scott Engle told KIRO-TV the teen had been standing with a friend past a yellow warning line on the platform. As the train approached the friend stepped back but the 16-year-old Puyallup boy was struck in the head and died at the scene.
KIRO-TV reports the boys may have been playing a game of chicken
And just like that—all of it is over.

….and the makes me, the winner.
I’d call it a tragic death, but stupid fits a lot better.
It’s sad that the PI has to tell people how to say Puyallup…
That being said, glad that bit of stupidity was cleared from the herd.
So, I guess the dead kid wins huh? Who should we send the trophy to? At least he was killed before he could breed.
Somehow this story conjures up the sound of dying on this old video game.

Charles,
Speaking of tragic and foolish:

To be sure, this accident gives me pause but traveling at “high speed” after 1 am and with alcohol a possible factor just makes me sigh. Evidently, they hit an emergency vehicle returning from the scene of an emergency. Such tragic irony and such folly. Two young men gone. Bloody sad. As you put it succinctly “And just like that-all of it is over”.
Cato, I didn’t know how to say it, so maybe they’re not so stupid after all.
All of what is over? What is “it” that is over, exactly?
@ 4, you can’t be sure that he hasn’t fathered a child already. When I was 16, dumbasses like this got laid a lot more than sensible kids like me. They were “brave” and girls liked that. (Well, not smart girls, but still.)
The luck of the young didn’t hold this time. Damn, when I was 16 I did all kinds of stupid shit and lived to tell. A stupid, meaningless, unlucky death.
I find it kinda weird that a local newspaper is taking care to help (presumably local) readers pronounce a local city.
The kid playing chicken against a train? Surely they meant against each other, seeing who would stand in place longer, right? Otherwise, I have to agree with the sentiment expressed by laterite.
@9 FTW¡
As to the game of chicken and the train, I think the rules clearly state that those remaining alive are the winners.
@10,
And the daring boys are more likely to try to get laid. Speaking as a woman traditionally attracted to the sensitive types, you all never make a fucking move.
The PI article is sourced from an AP feed, hence the pronunciation lesson.
The train won this round.
My son and my ex saw the crash results.
In any fight between a truck and a car or a bus and a car or a train in a car, the car always loses. Physics. The damage is bases on the relative masses of the objects, their angles and their speeds.
A car going 200 mph hitting a train of 100 times the mass going 20 mph will take almost all of the damage.
Also, this kid was a . . .
@14, that’s because we’re all gay. Well, except for venomlash, and he still has time and opportunity to turn things around.
Darwin.
@ 14, that’s for damn sure. Fear of rejection is a huge part of being sensitive.
thats stuiped bacause the friend should have grabbed him when he whent back and why would you be playing on train trackes really though a game of chicken on train tracks use your brain.I was acutally on the train and we were held up for 4 hours and everyone wanted to know what happened
