See, this is why you need single payer national health care – so that every American citizen and their legal dependents can get the public plan in every single US territory regardless of having a job or not.
And every doctor or practitioner practicing in the US or its territories or a US-flagged ship or base should be required to treat any US citizen presenting themselves for a covered procedure under the public plans – period.
This is a great start, and the unity of the three committees involved is surprising, according to the NYT.
Now lets pass that bad boy.
Have the republicans shouted it down yet, or is that scheduled for tomorrow?
This sounds great.
I say that as a Republican small business owner who has been buying insurance on my own for 25 years.
Sign me up.
It will be a great deal.
Until it goes bankrupt.
Because it is too good to be true.
The Democrats crafting these plans have no grasp of the underlying economic realities that drive the health care industry and the plans show it.
@4: You have no idea of economies of scale, which is maybe why you have a small business and not a big one?
There are ways of driving down costs. Every other damn country in the world pays around $2000 per citizen on healthcare (universal no less!) and we pay close to $6000 for no coverage.
Hummmmmmmmm.
However, there is the large possiility that some insurance companies are going to lose profit, but oh darn!
OM for the win @5.
You’ll probably be able to count on one hand the number of Congressmen who will actually read the damn thing.
And those are the true patriots.
Socialized medicine must be stopped before America becomes a 3rd world country.

@7 – yeah, like the AMA stopped Medicare with the same arguments after WW II …. nice try.
It takes all that paper just to expand medicare/medicaid from 65+ to everyone? Really? Really? It’s not that complicated folks….
….except the part where you fund it.

Ah yes,
‘economies of scale’!
It is a little known fact that Obama had a stint as an Illinois farmer before becoming a Chicago community organizer.
Yes, it’s true.
He would buy Watermelons (naturally) for $1.oo a piece, load them on his truck and drive to town. There he sold them from the back of his truck, for 75¢.
After several days he reviewed the financial situation of his enterprise with his partner.
As they surveyed their losses and brainstormed a solution Obama opined;
“you know, we need to get a bigger truck…”
9 – There’s a lot of reform in there – mental health parity, non-discrimination (unclear if it applies to LGBT), upfront costs before providing treatment, etc. Plus a ton of legalese so it’s very clear legally.
And don’t forget the internment camps for Red Bushies and their neocon comrades, lizzie. Those aren’t free.
@10: Wow. Watermelon jokes. You are original sir. Yup, never heard those before!
*yeesh*

Anybody still reading? Following is the transcript of a PBS interview of CIGNA’s former VP of PR by Bill Moyers. It sheds some light on why so many people misunderstand the implications of a public health care system (hint: it involves profit for CIGNA and other insurance companies).
