The new steam plant begs the question: why hasn’t anybody bothered to do this before? Waste wood is really cheap, you can sell the ash, and it looks good from an environmental standpoint. It seems like this should have been in the works 10-15 years ago, if not earlier.

Fnarf, wood burning is carbon neutral if the cut wood is replaced with new trees over time, which is usually the case. Demand for firewood is not what’s causing deforestation–logging for timber and to clear land for farming is.
The carbon released from the trees is reabsorbed when new trees use the CO2 in photosynthesis. It’s a sustainable cycle that occurs in increments of years or decades at most, unlike petroleum which takes millions of years to form.
