The Gang of Six! Fear them more than you fear the Crips or the Bloods. Bernie Sanders breaks it on down:

The Gang of Six plan reduces the top marginal income tax rate for the wealthiest Americans and most profitable corporations from 35% to as low as 23% (about 34% lower than the top tax rates under Bush).
Instead of reforming the Alternative Minimum Tax, it abolishes it altogether providing a major tax cut for the wealthiest Americans.

It reduces the deficit by about $3.7 trillion over 10 years, while providing a net tax cut of $1.5 trillion that will mainly go to the wealthiest Americans and most profitable corporations.

In other words, 100% of the deficit reduction achieved by the Gang of Six plan is through spending cuts to programs like Medicare, Medicaid, education, child care, Head Start, LIHEAP, environmental protection, and other programs that the sick, the elderly, the children, and working families need.

The worst gang imaginable is, however, not listed by Northwest Gangs.

    Obama stopped caring about the working class when he made all the friends he will ever need to have on Wall Street. I mean one of the banker’s attorney’s was one of his appointments to the SCOTUS.

  8. Whether it increases or decreases revenue depends on the scenario you compare it to. It only decreases revenue when compared the politically utterly unrealistic scenario that in 2013 all the Bush tax cuts(for the middle class as well as the wealthy) expire. When compared to what have until now been regarded as politically realistic scenarios, it increases revenue by $1T.

    Don’t fall into the trap of assuming marginal rates and revenues are inexorably linked. By removing deductions, it is possible to increase revenues while reducing marginal rates. Even left-wing economists would regard that as an improvement.

    Any tax revenue that is raised by closing tax loopholes for large corporations must be used to lower tax rates.

    I assume you missed this part. Pretty interesting considering that many of the largest corporations pay no corporate taxes.

  11. Keshmeshi @9: I did miss that, thanks for pointing it out. I’m not sure how to resolve Sander’s assertion with other assertions out there about the provisions and revenue consequences of the proposal. Unfortunately, the provisions haven’t been publicly released and the CBO has not officially scored them. I think we will just have to wait a few days for the necessary information.

  14. I think Obama should start selling off our gold stockpile if the debt ceiling isn’t raised. It isn’t doing anyone any good right now, and it would really bother certain “no compromise” factions would would rather see our country burn than pay their share of taxes.

    (Not that Obama has the authority to do this, I imagine.)
