Guns! Guns! Guns!

KOMO News: One person was killed and at least six were injured by gunfire late Saturday and early Sunday in an extraordinary surge of [gun] violence in the Seattle area.

A gas station clerk died from his injuries after he was shot during an armed robbery in Ballard early Sunday, and six others were injured when gunfire erupted overnight on Westlake Avenue in Seattle, in SeaTac and at Seattle’s annual Torchlight Parade.

Another problem? The majority of the shooters this weekend were black. There is no hiding that. And because there are no local black leaders to address this real problem in the community means the solutions to it will be white solutions.

  1. Zok,
It’s not the racial profile or the unwed status that links children to crime, those are distractions as well- it’s “unwanted child” status or not: there’s an observable
inverse correlation between the availability of abortion and subsequent crime.
Also smart to keep in mind is proportion: how many ‘White’ families are having 4 kids? Or is closer to 1 or 2? How many ‘Black’ families have 3 or more? Now you can make contradictory statement using stats, for example, ‘both families have a 50% likelihood of getting into crime’, but yet you say can also say that “more black kids are getting into crime than white” since white families are not reproducing as fast/large as other families. How many of your 7 out of ten black families are ,lets say, fatherless due to death, incarceration, criminal interference, drug abuse, economic presssures? And how many of those 5 factors are influenced by societal racism? If it’s about choices then it’s not merely about whether to give parenting a go – it’s choices the rest of the nation/community make, it’s choices in the face of cultural temptations, perhaps. Parent choices are the least of the worries.

I’m curious if you have single parent / crime stats on people of any other ethnicity? Native american? Asian-American? Hispanic?

However, I’m not willing to believe those posting here that think that a skin color or heritage ’causes’ social ills. Or that the solution needs to come from leadership of a certain heritage.
It could be more easily argued that social ills cause people to divide themselves by color/heritage rather than unite as humanity.
