Yowtch. The Awl accuses New Jersey governor Jon Corzine of “playing the ‘fat’ card” against his opponent Chris Christie in an ad about Christie “throwing his weight around.” Here’s the ad:

Nothing in political advertisements is there by accident, and this really does seem to be in poor taste. I wonder if Christie will run an ad accusing Corzine of bald-faced lies.

  1. McGinn needs to subvert this by challenging Mallahan to a belly-flop contest – winner gets his name in two extraneous Slog posts per week until Election Day.

  2. Perfect distraction. Facts obfiscated by “fat” controversy. “Throwing his weight around” would be a perfectly acceptable description of what he did, but only if he’s a skinny person.

  3. Why bother to throw in the weight comment? It’s gratuitous. He could be a marathon runner w/bird legs and still be perfect slime bucket.

  4. As a NJ resident, I’d like to point out that all of Christie’s ads only show him from the neck up, where as all of Corzine’s ads when showing Christie make sure they are full body shots. But to be fair, the man is incredibly fat.
