Elizabeth Spiers, the O.G. (Original Gawker), is going to start an online feminist magazine that will probably have a bit of a Gawkerish spin to it. This is, of course, an original idea.

The most worrisome thing about all this? Spiers describes her vision as “Maxim for women.” Let me be the first to say: GROSS!

Speaking of feminism: there’s apparently a little online kerfluffle about this poster:

  1. Seeing as how it is a direct copy of the Girls Say YES to Boys who Say NO poster against the draft, (from the fonts down to the small text at the bottom to the way the girls are crossing their legs/ankles), I don’t see how there is a kerfluffle about this at all.

  2. Jezebel is already Maxim for women, except occasionally not as stupid. It’s not a feminist web site. It has an audience of young savvy left women who go for the pictures of celebrities and their babies and to talk about their sex lives. That’s feminism?

  3. Thank you, Julie, for the historical context.

As for the “Maxim for women” thing: I, for one, wouldn’t mind a little mancandy every now and then. I’m a married woman, for Pete’s sake, and I gotta take what I can get. I just hope they don’t get all hipster-y and have droopy guys in skinny jeans and saggy tighty-whities posing as mancandy. Bleh.

  4. The original 1960’s poster is a really great photo, and a well designed poster. This one had very little though put into the creation if it. It loses a lot of power because of that.
