Moe bar was packed to standing room only. The TVs were loud and the crowd was quiet except to cheer (or boo at Bush, Cheney, and Warren). One moment I haven’t seen mentioned elsewhere: Warren’s bizarre over-enunciation of the name “Sasha.” Everyone at Moe had been tensely quiet during Warren’s (not as bad as it could have been) speech, until that odd moment, when a wave of relieved laughter swept over the room.

Also, politics isn’t really my beat, but I just wanted to chime in to say that Obama’s inaugural speech hit pretty much every note I hoped to hear.

  1. Yeah, my husband and I had complete WTF looks on our face during the “Sashaaa and Maliaaaa” moment. I think maybe he was trying to compare their names to “Yeshua and Isa” in the next line. It didn’t work…

  2. definitely a pedo, i was pretty sure and that clinched it. his earlier description of pedophilia as a grown man with “a very young child,” rather than saying something more accurate like, “an adult and a child,” it was clear that he enjoyed saying it.

  3. Too bad Lowery gave a better speech than Warren. It only makes me more defiant. As true to my word, an atheist (I believe similar The Stranger’s creed), I feel it necessary to somehow address this fine man, and assert that religion is BULLSHIT.

  4. Reverend Lowery’s appropriation of the old double-dutch chant in his benediction was genius, and helped scrub the stain of Warren’s creepy “prayer” from my offended mind.

  5. I was at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse and there was the same reaction. He seemed to be overacting before that, but that one part just went far enough that there were several scattered bursts of laughter.
