I was in Victoria, BC this weekend, including Friday night when the Canucks won game five of the Stanley Cup Final. We watched the game at a local pub with hundreds of fans. Once Lapierre scored the one goal of the game, the place exploded with cheers. The celebration spilled out onto the streets and FOR HOURS people drove up and down the main strip in Victoria honking, waving flags, yelling, cheering, honking some more, and beating a stuffed bear dressed in a Bruins jersey into the hood of their cars (okay, only one person did that last one).

A man was also wandering the streets playing bagpipes, but I’m not sure if that was related to the hockey game or not.

Game six is tonight at 5 pm (PST) in Boston. If the Canucks win, they win the Cup. And they also set the record for “the worst offensive performance in finals history.“

Nothing to be proud of, Canucks…

  2. Glad you could be here, Megan! Friday night was f-ing awesome! Yep, the game has taken over our minds. Even people who aren’t normally that into hockey are walking around today sick with tension. If we win tonight, we will go insane with joy.

The pipers are a pretty standard sight, and probably have nothing to do with the game.

  3. also if they win it will be 8th time that a team won the Presidents trophy and the Stanley Cup. But why point something like that out when you can point out that they were poor on the offense.

  4. Just heard that downtown Vancouver is closing its BC liquor stores today @ 1600 to help avoid alcohol-related violence.
