An aquarium and a shopping centre in Dubai have been evacuated after water leaked from a massive tank holding hundreds of sharks.

Safety officials said the “small crack” appeared in the tank which holds 10 million litres of water and more than 33,000 underwater creatures.

…Teams carrying lifejackets were seen entering the mall.

  1. They brought an exotic aquarium of sea creatures into the desert. Also I understand why Dubai is trying to protect the future of their land but honestly it is so inefficient to build out a huge city in the desert.

  2. Actually, Dubai is right on the water. You know, salt water?
Anyway it’s silly to have in a mall but really it’s no different than any other city on the water having an aquarium.

Please note, I still think Dubai is the capital of everything that went wrong in the aughties.

  3. Aw, hell, for what may be the first time, I’m actually more drunk than Chuckie is right now, so I guess I’ll cut him some slack.

  4. I’m celebrating, Dee. AT&T decided they’ve been overcharging me for the last year-and-a-half, and applied a retroactive credit of $30 per month to the account. Pretty nice little windfall.

  5. I have been to dubai, and it _is_ wrong at many, many levels… slave / indentured servatude no doubt built that mall. they are taking water from the Gulf, desalinating it and putting the salt back in the Gulf, which will render the Gulf lifeless eventually, a dead sea.
