Geekologie has this video advertising a product that makes me wish I was a kid again. Well, maybe not. It is the first thing that makes me wish I didn’t have hardwood floors in my apartment. Actually, no, I hate carpets. But still:

FunSlides! I just realized that our office is carpeted, and I think we could get a lot more work done if we each had a pair of these.

  1. “Pro and semi-pro funsliders”? What constitutes a pro funslider? Those kids in the commercial, since they got paid to slide around in those things?

They look awesome, but, you’d need an awfully big carpeted area to really enjoy them.

  2. hardwood floors are so bourgeois. When I walk into a home and all I see are hardwood floors, I immediately think “this isn’t a home, it’s a museum.”

  3. Is it necessary to say “hardwood floors?” Are any wood floors made with soft wood? Why not just say “wood floor?”

    Oh right, I forgot, pretentiousness.

  4. A lot of floors are made of pine, or used to be, especially in the South.

Paul, I’ve been in your offices, and I’m not sure I’d call that stuff “carpet”.

  5. @6/7 Fir is another “soft” wood sometimes used for wood flooring. I think even cork might qualify.

That said, I want these FunSlide carpet skate thingies. And I will totally use them to skate down the stairs and fall on my ass.

  6. There’s also bamboo floors, which seem soft as hell judging by how badly the examples I’ve seen in homes have stood up to wear.

And since the video isn’t loading for me, I’ll just picture that scene from Christmas Vacation.

  7. Wouldn’t these turn you into giant static-shock machines? I hate getting zapped by static almost more than anything…and yet they look so fun!

  8. @14: All the more fun when you pet the cat.

@5: If you have allergies, you come to really appreciate hard surfaced floors, be they wood, pergo or tile.

  9. my 9-year-old brother has carpet skates. hes always crashing into our dog and falling on his ass. that’s entertainment for our whole family.
