With the wealth of discoveries/identifications/reclassifications/cloning that have happened recently, I’m feeling deprived that my inbox remains devoid of any exciting dinosaur news today. To get us through, here are some dino-bits from around the web.

How to get kids to study science. Funny because it’s true.

The Jurassic Park theme slowed down x1000. (this via of the Dinosaur Mailing List!)

  1. OMG did you hear the latest baby mammoth news? I think it’s a week old, but I just got around to reading about it the same place everyone reads the New Yorker…on the can:

Even after forty-two thousand years, the animal’s undeniable cuteness threatened one’s scientific objectivity. Though cuddly, she was almost too big to hug.

  2. @1, not everyone reads the New Yorker “on the can.”

I have a special room with stained-glass windows, indirect lighting, wind chimes under the eaves, a small burbling fountain in the corner, and a lovely Persian carpet (with a hole in the middle and a 300-foot drop to the cliffs below).

  3. @3, that sounds just lovely, though when a gale blows up I’d imagine things get to flapping in the wind, magazine pages and such…

  4. Updrafts can certainly be a problem, though a glance at the falcon most often gives me adequate warning. Pages are usually glued together as a result of a particularly rousing George Packer article or somesuch.

  5. That dinosaur model is wicked sweet!

Speaking of Jurassic Park, I rode through those gates (on Kauai, on the hike to Blue Hole) over New Years. One of the few movie location type things (even though it’s pretty damn remote, 3 miles in on a 4×4-only access road) I’ve ever legitimately fanned out on. It’s all overgrown now, so it’s hard not to feel like you’re in some shitty sequel when you’re there.
