Yesterday I complained that there was no dinosaur news, and Slog-commenter Gloomy Gus helpfully pointed me to this story about an adorable baby mammoth! It’s not news, exactly, as the baby was discovered a few years ago, but the New Yorker piece is still an interesting read. Here’s the original University of Michigan press-release about the mammoth discovery.
In other mammoth news is the unlikelihood that this ancient Egyptian drawing is of a pygmy mammoth.
And finally, via boingboing, very cool information about Helmut Tischlinger, who uses blacklight to reveal feathers and skin-textures in fossilized dinosaur remains.

Mary Traverse, you’re my favorite.
There is a PHOTO?!? That is a beautiful little mammoth.
@2 Isn’t she amazing? Thanks for the heads-up, Gus!
Wow! Amazing.
