- NAAM joins forces with Pecha Kucha Seattle and Seattle People of Color Salon for #BlackLivesMatter
This evening, #BlackLivesMatter_SEA, the second event produced collaboratively by Pecha Kucha Seattle, the Northwest African American Museum, and the Seattle People of Color Salon (the first, #FERGUSON_Sea, happened back in August), is not taking place at the museum, as previously planned, but at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The main reason for the change can be found in what occurred at the first event: It was wall-to-wall people. The organizers feel that the second time around will draw even more people. To avoid long lines and long faces, they needed more space, and the church offered precisely that. Leilani Lewis, NAAM’S communications manager, explains:
We’ve received an incredible response to this event and we wanted to make sure we could accommodate all who were interested in attending this event.
At our last event, #Ferguson, It was phenomenal to see all of the people in room and waiting outside. It shows that Seattle is hungry for these events.
We are expecting a high turn out on tonight, and we just needed a bigger space in the community. We are so grateful that the Pastor Williams and Mrs. Williams for welcoming the NAAM, Seattle People of Color Salon, and PechaKucha communities to Mount Zion.
Some of the speakers tonight will be film producer Tracy Rector, jazz bassist Evan Flory-Barnes, and blogger Ijeoma Oluo.
