Toothpaste For Dinner is a webcomic created by Drew Fairweather from Columbus, Ohio. The comic was launched on January 1st, 2002, and as far as I know, a new one has been posted every day since it started. The drawings are minimal, clever, and are shared on the Internet by your closest friend at work and cool stoner cousin. They also show up in nearly every Google Image search ever.

The Oatmeal is a website that contains comics created by Matthew Inman from Seattle, Washington. The drawings are complex and colorful and are usually titled something like “I Will Punch You in the Face if You Talk While at the Public Library.” They are shared by nearly every one of your friends on Facebook and the lady at work who never talks to anybody in real life.

  1. You might as well say
Toothpaste for Dinner: Random thoughts and puns – that you’ve probably thought of yourself while sitting on the bus – poorly illustrated.

The Oatmeal: Unique illustrations of interesting shit that you should already know but don’t; like when to use a semi-colon e.g. I’m pretty sure Bologna is made out of cow elbows; I love it anyway. Also when to use e.g vs. i.e. All made hilarious by the use of off the wall situations like “How to best take out a unicorn with a claymore”.

    Now vote.

  2. Dude, I’m sorry. I love to be a regionalist, but Oatmeal’s comics aren’t all that insightful or well-executed either. I mean, I suppose if you like simple vector illustrations done on photoshop.
Not saying it’s bad, but TPFD will always be the best webcomic ever.

  3. @12 XKCD used to be the best webcomic, but he’s gone downhill for the past year or two. I much prefer The Oatmeal, if only for the Literally comic, which brings us the Gayroller 2001. That’s my favorite image in years.

  4. Making humorous things is a hit of miss proposition at best, so definitely they both deserve credit for effort. But man, really? Content-wise The Oatmeal is just DIRE. Also, the crap vector-art style makes me angry just looking at it. Do not fwd/link to anything from there if you value my respect.

  5. I don’t need to read Toothpaste for Dinner to know that it MUST be funnier than The Oatmeal. I have never even cracked a smile at that and can’t understand why it makes people laugh.

  6. Toothpaste. Go forth and buy something to support whatever web comic artist you love most!

Funny timing for this post, because I just realized a few days ago that I’d never purchased any items from the TFD store, though it has brought me many hours of free amusement. I now look forward to receiving the original drawing of one of my favorites: http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/index… Originals can be obtained for the bargain price of $50 a pop.
