Police records released by the King County Prosecutor’s office this afternoon reveal that a Saturday night shooting in South park was the result of a dispute between two gangs over respect and turf in South Park.
Around midnight, officers also responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of South Sullivan Street in South Park. Police records say that a group of four members of the Surenos Villains 13—who were all between 16 and 24 years old—got into an argument at a gas station on 14th Avenue S and S Concord Street with members of the Norte gang, accusing them of crossing out SV13 tags in the area.
Members of the Norte gang left the area, but the four SV13 members allegedly followed them and opened fire.
Police pulled the four SV13 members over shortly after the incident and took them in to custody. Police recovered two semi-automatic handguns from the vehicle.
The victim in the shooting was taken to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.
Turf war? What the fuck are they fighting over, the ten people who buy drugs in that neighborhood? Are there hookers down there or something?
Gangs are the stupidest thing in the whole world, gangs fighting “turf wars” doubly so.
So, SV13 follows Norte, and opens fire. Norte has one gang member in the hospital, and SV13 has four gang members in jail.
I think Norte won the Norte-vs-SV13 skirmish 4 to 1. Good job SV13! Way to show your strength!
And we won the Normal-People-vs-Gangs skirmish 5 to 0.
I live in South Park, just a couple blocks from where this occurred. What I will say is that the promised police presence that Mayor McCheese spoke about during the community meeting after the tragic stabbing attack dissipated IMMEDIATELY after the suspect was taken into custody. My bf and I drove around South Park looking for cops. None to be found. Anywhere.
The same scabby hooker has been walking 14th for 6 yrs. The same dingy bar, Juan Colorado, has been the source of drugs and prostitution for years. The Aero motel, just over our decrepit bridge, is the destination spot for murders and would-be-murderers alike. The same loud jackasses have been yelling up and down the street at 4 AM almost every night. The same corner market has been selling alcohol to underage kids.
This shooting is one more example of how out of control the gang violence is, how the mayor provides lip service to minority communities, and how thinly the police forces are stretched especially when nice white people need assistance at important things like the effing Lake City Way Sea Fair parade.

I say this as the son of a Mexican immigrant who grew up poor in a bad neighborhood, but took control of his destiny and ended up having a nice career as an engineer. People have options, it’s not just work at Microsoft or join a gang. These little gangbanger shitheads aren’t doomed to that lifestyle, they choose it.

Washington needs to come up with an aggressive plan to deal with gangs. no more excuses. no more slaps on the wrist for gang-related tagging. this story is evidence of what gang activity leads to. ok, so, no big deal the violence was confined to gang members so, no big loss. BUT, what if some kids had been around and they got caught in the crossfire? we need to make HARSH penalties for gang related crimes. ZERO TOLERANCE. no second chances. I’m so fricken’ sick of all of this, my son was one of the kids shot at. NOT ONE MEDIA REPORT HAS BEEN CORRECT! I was present as the boys were being questioned, nothing that was said is even remotely close to what is being reported. The police who were questioning them gave me no indication that they believe my son and his 2 other friends are gang members. I have lived with this kid for 17 years, is he perfect, no! But that doesn’t make him a gang member, he has no criminal history, nor do the other 2 boys who were shot at. My son and his friends are United States citizens, only one (my son) is Hispanic. although 2 of the gang members who shot at them are illegal. These guys were victims of a serious crime and I am so sick of hearing them portayed as anything but that!
if your son did nothing wrong…then you should have nothing to fear from the authorities. if your son is in a gang, and you don’t know about it yet, i hope this isn’t the way you find out about it.
