A heated debate has started in the comment thread of this post, which is not really about Uggs at all, but rather, about whether or not copy editors should have dirty minds. Either way, now that we have a debate about this extremely important topic, we must settle it with a legally binding poll.
How do you feel about Uggs?

Uggs are awesome for making cold feet warm after surfing. That is their only purpose (since the bottoms are too slick to wear them on snow).
They’re warm. I’m wearing some right now.
I think it’s a matter of fact that Uggs are not hot. If you’re pulling them off, you’re the sort that can pull of anything.
According to my girlfriend, Uggs are the worst thing in fashion pretty much ever. Personally, I would consider them a dealbreaker.
I will stick with my Steger mukluks, thanks. Nobody has ever acclaimed them as hot, but they’re warm as hell and perfect on snow.
Uggs are great for culturing whatever gunk’s growing on your toes in a damp boot swamp. I’ll stick to Sorels, thanks.
@4 – I might have to take it up a notch and agree with you. They’re as close as it can come to a deal breaker without actually being capri pants.
Also, shouldn’t we be a little embarrassed for having this conversation at the cusp of 2010—I mean, if embarrassment were something I still felt?
Additionally, if you have to qualify something with “depends who they’re on” then the item in question is de facto not hot.
Uggs are hoooorrrible! I can not stand them. I hate bimbo sorority girls who wear them with nice clothes and I hate bimbo sorority girls who wear them with sweats. Nobody else wears them.
Ahhh, Ugg boots! Only bogans and westies wear them…
I drives me crazy when I see high school and college girls wearing them here, in South Louisiana, where it is warm in the winter. I don’t know how they can stand to have their feet in those things.
Except for today, when it is freaking freezing.
Those are Mukluks. Is Ugg some kind of brand name? Surfer girls wore those in the 80s where I’m from.
I don’t know about how hot or fashionable they are but I thought the girls who wore them were kinda cute in them.
If observation is any indication, Uggs are a birthright in southern California, and rarely do they appear without either leggings-as-pants, mini skirts, or short shorts.
They most certainly are not a deal breaker for me. Down here, such a policy would disqualify nearly all women with legs. I may as well swear off all oxygen-breathers.
Ok, Uggs are not hot, but they are actually EXTREMELY comfy, so I don’t have an issue with them. (I mean, sweatshirts also aren’t particularly hot, but I’m not going to get in a fuss about people wearing those either!)
Ew Ew Ew Ew EWWWWWWWW. Uggs are probably the least hot shoe ever created. I would fully support my boyfriend dumping my sorry ass if I ever start wearing those fugly, fugly things because on that day it will be clear that I have completely given up and a saggy front butt is soon to follow.
Uggs are not hot, no matter what.
They may be comfortable for some people, and keep your feet cozy warm. In cold climates they very well may have some practical value.
Regardless, they are not, and never will be, hot.
(And for California girls to wear them is completely insane.)
@9 I hate assholes who think only bimbo sorority girls wear uggs. Demonstrably false.
They’re comfy and keep my feet toasty warm w/out having to wear socks, which I hate, so I don’t give a fuck if they’re ugly.
That said, no one should be wearing then unless it’s below 35.
My question: are uggs better or worse than crocs?
@1 for the win.
Uggs for the epic fail.
As an example, if you look at the pic of the girl in the pic of fashionistas at U Village in today’s UW Daily, the Ugg-wearer is … well … let’s just be nice and not point out that Uggs don’t make her a fashionista except in Bizarro World.
Uggs are awful. God awful. Now, on the topic of Moon Boots I give a big, fat hells yeah!
Mukluks totally rock, tho. If worn with the right outfit, they can be totally hot.
#19 – Correct. Moon Boots are also functional, and dear to my heart.
they look rockin’ with my utilikilt
@17 Totally. Uggs are basically flip flops for the winter time – easy to put on, comfy, and work for the weather.
Uggs + 10 years = acceptably ironic hipster fashion
@17, the only footwear more hideous than Uggs are Crocs. At least Uggs serve the purpose of being toasty warm. There is no such excuse for Crocs.
First of all, copy editors who had a clue would know that its “UGGs” and not “Uggs”.
Crocs are ok if you’re actually gardening, or are a kid at the beach … other than that …. nope.
I love my uggs.
I love your uggs, too.
@25: i believe you can buy fleece liners for crocs, which sort of make them into rubber uggs.
@27: you are exactly correct.
Saw a kid (at most 5 years old) with these on in Dallas over the summer. She could barely walk, and her feet were burning on the concrete. Her mother didn’t seem to care. Of course, Mom had actual soles on her shoes.
Oh, blow me, Croc haterz. If I’m not barefoot I’m in my Crocs. It’s all about the comfort; I’m not concerned with your contempt. Maybe once a year I’m in a suit and tassled loafers (horrors!) for a wedding or funeral. UGGs bug because their clamshell front ends don’t work for hippie feet that can keep themselves warm and have actual space between the toes, but if you like ’em, sheep on!
these things:

would look better on your feet than uggs…
ok maybe not, but still uggs are really, really, not good.
Hey! I’m wearing tasselled loafers right now.
Uggs/Flip-flops + time = fallen arches.
@34 that’s what superfeet are for.
Nay, @34. I have been wearing flip-flops for 30+ years, and my arches have not fallen.
Uggs are undeniably NOT hot.
This poll just proves that 3% of Slog readers are purposefully contrarian, or certifiably insane. Or both.
new poll question for Grant:
what’s uglier/worse: Uggs, Crocs, or Utilikilts?
@35: So do you just duct-tape them directly to the flip-flop?
I wear them for comfort, not style. That is the reason why all Ugg-wearers wear Uggs.
I regret to say that I know–and in fact am related to–people who think that UGGs are fashionable. I try to avoid them during the winter.
Uggs actully makes boots with more structure and style than those ugly, unstructured, suede monstrosities. Shearling-lined boots are really useful when it’s at or below 0F, as it often is where I live. I personally don’t understand wearing something warm and unsupportive when it’s hot out, especially without socks. Those suede Uggs are stink factories.
good grief. how does anybody have the time or energy to care what other people are wearing? isn’t growing beyond that the good part about graduating from junior high?
