“These are at Montlake Elementary,” writes a Slog/Urinal tipper and proud parent of a Montlake student. “This is a small school with hardly enough class space—teachers use the hallways—yet they have these giant bathrooms. This is about half the stretch of urinals for a school with maybe 110 boys. And they are huge and solid and downright awesome.” (He means the urinals, not the boys. I hope.)

Nominate a urinal for Urinal of the Day by sending a picture and a few sentences about the urinal to urinals@thestranger.com.

  1. @1: No, it’s not the bullshit “health code” laws. Building codes do require minimum plumbing fixtures based on building use and capacity, but there are very few instances where the building code would require more than a handful of urinals per floor. Large sports arenas and…that’s about it.

Those are some old-assed urinals–maybe original to the building. When the place was built, someone must have had some fucked-up ideas about capacities and needs. Did they intend that every male in the building would only be allowed to relieve themselves simultaneously?

  2. Dan, if you’re ever in Bozeman, Montana (speaking at MSU or something) try to have your show booked at Emerson Cultural Center. It used to be an elementary school and I think you will like their urinals very much.

  3. @5: I love that Bozeman named its elementary schools after great Americans of letters, poets even (in addition to Emerson: Hawthorne, Irving, Longfellow, Whittier). Not every minor-league cow town in the West did that.
