“This urinal photo was taken this week in a factory about 1.5 hours outside Shanghai, China,” writes UOTD tipper Tony. “The urinal consists of a long trough along the floor just beyond the steps. The flushing system works like this: A hose fills a bucket up near the ceiling, and when the water gets to a certain height, the valve opens and a small tsunami runs down the length of the trough and out… I don’t know, into the street? Presumably, when the tsunami hits, you see what everyone upstream has been doing for the past few minutes. Didn’t try it myself.”

  1. Yes, the lovely Chinese trough toilet. Stay at a cheap Chinese hotel and you might find a style of bathroom with a canyon running straight down the room with an infrequent torrent of water moving all the shit and piss into a conduit on the low end of the room (like @1 says – but they’re not just for women). So much fun! Also, those style of “toilet” tend to clog easily if too many people use it between flushes and then the sewage floods the room. Luckily most bowel movements in China consist of watery diarrhea. Too much information?

  2. Unfortunately, with those windows, you no longer have any real excuse to look sideways at the other guys’ dicks, coz there’s actually something else to look at.

  3. The best urinal I ever pissed on was in Shanghai in a restaurant called Shintori. The urinal was a glass window overlooking an enclosed zen garden.

  4. squatting while you shit=more healthy for your body, less water use for the world. shit happens, westerners. get over yourselves. at least take a look at squat toilets on wiki.
