By a vote of 90 to 2, house members in Olympia today approved a temporary $45-a-week increase to state unemployment benefits.

Given the times, and the mounting layoffs in Washington, this is likely to be one of the most popular/populist bills of the session—assuming it passes the state senate, which will take up the measure next week.

  1. This is awesome, I can keep paying for my health insurance and not have to choose between filling the gas tank up or paying the electricity bill. I was laid off in June and my job was in serious decline (I was an Escrow Officer) so there is no chance of getting into a job that pays any where near what my job paid. Unemployment gives me not even half of what I made at my job. Oh and can’t forget that my husband worked for 4 years with no paycheck to get his business going…going going gone due to the economy. The rest of you must have jobs. Think about somebody other then yourself before posting stupid remarks.
