This is going to go over well.

Seeing as distributing bibles—or “hunting people for Jesus”—is a direct violation of orders, these guys are all going to get tossed out of Afghanistan and the military right?

  1. I am a non-Christian soldier who has served in Iraq. While the idea of passing out bibles to locals is disturbing to me i feel it is important to point out that the majority of the video appears to be from prayer meetings or chaplain services. Both of those activities are allowed and protected under the Constitution and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

  2. @47, yeah, yeah. And it was mean, too. Loveschild, you bring out the worst in me! The Mickey and Minnie thing is better, cheesy as it is.

But really, what’s wrong with two Mickeys?

  3. These soldiers were issued General Order Number 1B from United States Central Command on March 13, 2006. Section 2, k of these orders lists as a prohibited activity “proselytizing of any religion, faith or practice.”[1] The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines the word proselytize as meaning in part “to induce someone to convert to one’s faith.” These soldiers had bibles delivered to them in the two official languages of Afghanistan, Dari and Pashto, with the obvious intention of distributing them to the locals, in order to induce them to convert to their own faith. They disobeyed a general order, which is an offense punishable by court martial or a lesser military court per the Uniform Code of Military Justice.[2] All of the other moral and philosophical debates are irrelevant. They were given and order and chose to disobey that order. Period. The prosecution rests. FTW

  4. Completely unimportant, but I just can’t shake the feeling that that’s John Oliver (of The Daily Show) narrating. Either it is him or he does a startlingly accurate british news anchor voice. (Or, option three, the British news anchors actually are that over the top.)
