  1. So, wait… I have to listen to even more A Prairie Home Companion, but Weekend America, something I actually love, is going away?

There is no justice in this world.

  2. I’m with you @2. And throw in that awful Michael Feldman too. What sort of stranglehold does the midwest have over NPR? Weekend America is worth 300 Keillors and Feldmans.

  3. That’s funny, SeanD.

No News, because NPR has already announced that a lot of good shows are going, and, except for MarketPlace, I am addicted to nothing produced by APM (American Public Media), which is the company that produces Weekend America.

I won’t miss Weekend America. Day to Day (NPR), absolutely crushed. Weekend America seemed really silly and often annoying to me.

  4. Weekend America? Meh…

But cancelling On The Media and canning John McChesney and Renee Montagne sucks. It was my favorite NPR show…

  5. Weekend America was okay. It seemed like it was actually starting to get better w/ the addition of more This-American-Life-like segments. I didn’t love the show–it’s typical NPR fare–but it’s certainly better than a Prairie Home Companion. Does that really need to run twice in one weekend? While Garrison Keillor (sp?) is a good storyteller the rest of the show falls flat.

  6. I’m gonna miss it. I like the stories and makes for good listening. It’s one of the three Saturday radio shows I like…. I hope Living on Earth and This American Life aren’t going away. T_T

  7. I like Weekend America. I don’t think I ever listened to an entire broadcast…who can on a Sat afternoon? But I thought the show struck a nice mix between weekend casual and Public Radio self-importance. As for Garrison being a good story teller, um, I beg to differ. I like the other stuff but when “It’s been a good week in Lake Wobegone…” begins, I take my dog for a walk. It’s all impromptu and never maintains my interest due to the lack of a storyline. Too bad.

  8. I am bummed out. I’d much rather listen to weekend america every day than be subjected to Click and Clack cackling twice on the weekends.

  9. I’m really going to miss Weekend America. I have to wonder if Target pulled its funding, given the economic climate.

Those crazy Ira Glass “commercials” during fundraisers where he talks about NPR shows going silent is eerily coming to pass….

  10. WEEKEND AMERICA WAS INSIPID AND ANNOYING. The worst segment was the “good news, bad news, no news” banality, closely followed by that “soundtrack of your weekend” drivel. The whole thing was just so cutsie and vapid. The tone was just to smug and forced. I made several complaints to my local NPR station, so I can only hope I did my part to do them in. It gives me encouragement to take on A Prarie Home Companion which is smug and cutsie on steroids.
