Screw King County elections. Voting is underway right now at Capitol Hill Seattle blog, where an electorate will determine which image to run on a special Capitol Hill currency. But whose visage shall adorn the center: The mascot crow of Capitol Hill Seattle? Linda Derschang, entrepreneur of taxidermy-animal-enshrined watering holes? Dan Savage? Nutty the Squirrel? The Cal Anderson Fountain? One of the other candidates?

The crowโ€”the fucking crowโ€”is currently in the lead. Crows are slovenly, braying trash scavengers. They must not win. We must rise up. Vote now.

2 p.m. Update: The crow is down and so is Nutty the Squirrel. Meanwhile Savage and Boe the Scarf Dancer are leading, um, neck and neck at 17 and 16 percent, respectively. Go BOE!

  1. Crows are wonderful and intelligent… their just not as picky as others. You should also be careful how you talk about them cause when they join together they form a MURDER!!!

  2. slovenly

1515, “low, base, lewd,” later “untidy, dirty” (1568), from sloven “immoral woman” (c.1450), probably from M.Flem. sloovin “a scold,” related to sloef “untidy, shabby,” from P.Gmc. *slup- + O.Fr. suffix -ain, from L. -anus.

    Glass houses, Dom.

  3. Why not the Volunteer Park Water Tower? That said, I think that Boe is probably the best choice out of all of these — somewhat ubiquitous and mysterious and freaky and queer all at the same time…

  4. shouldn’t it really be a picture of a 40 year old software engineer wearing a Lucky brand shirt and designer glasses from Eyes on Fremont drinking coffee and working on his screenplay/Facebook/poster design for his band in an indie coffee house with his fixie and his French bulldog parked out front?

  5. I never actually see Boe on Capital Hill. I just see him at festivals, mostly in Fremont.

I’d put that guy who dyes his hair (including facial) a different color every day and matches his clothes to it. I don’t know what he’s called, though. Seeing him is like seeing Willy Wonka walking down the street.

  6. #19 that would be purple mark..i love me some puple mark. and if you’re very nice to him he might bless you with a home made penis chocolate.
but boe odyssey has lived, worked, paraded
( leashed and unleashed ), and cleaned the streets of capitol hill for decades. he is officially in charge of the intersection of 15th and pine and there is a plaque posted there that bears his name .he goes to as many community functions as his time permits, although now that i think of it i’ve never seen him at any bars. if so honored it would be like getting a lifetime achievement award for him.

  7. When was the last time Savage cleaned the trash off the street?

Or wore a skirt in public and twirled delightfully and free of irony? (1996, actually)

Or exposed his wang to the world?

    Vote Boe!!!

  8. Boe. Totally. I see him on Capitol Hill all the fucking time.

I know Dan exists, and I read the Stranger and Slog religiously, but I have never actually seen Dan in real life. He’s off trying to be homo-spokesman on CNN and Colbert.

  9. You can spot Boe on 15th by Group Health, like, every other day between 10am and 2pm. The rest of his time is spent in secret meetings with the popsicle colored beard man, Debbie Gibson hat man, Seattle police are communists man and red-headed slack-jawed begger man. They’re the fucking Justice League of Capitol Hill.

Dan Savage is just their Robin, at best.
