- Whatever you do, do not pee near a pole
Nearly five months after a German shorthair pointer was killed when it got too close to an electric pole in Queen Anne, another dog sniffed out high voltage coming from a metal streetlight last week.
According to a Seattle City Light press release, the streetlight, located in the Central District, was giving off 90 volts of electricity, the same amount that killed the pointer when it stepped on a metal plate by the lamppost in Queen Anne.
The Central District pole, located at 23rd Avenue and East Marion Street, was hit by a car in August, resulting in a replacement in January, which was obviously not done properly. The brouhaha caused by the dead pointer prompted City Light to step up streetlight inspections—it even hired two companies to inspect the city’s 30,000 metal streetlights and 20,000 ground cover plates in December and January.
City Light said that as a precaution, it was testing and inspecting 60 streetlamps that were damaged and replaced last year. Thanks for the assurance City Light, but I think the best thing to do would be to stay as far away from all metal poles as possible, and that includes dogs.
If you suspect high voltage at any metal streetlight pole, report it immediately to the Streetlight Hotline at 684-7056.

What’s with their shitty workers that do this so often?
What is with people wanting some nanny state insuring that they don’t get electrocuted just walking down the road? Pedestrians should be licensed and taxed just like car owners to provide for the upkeep of the public sidewalks and utilities.
Also, my taxes should be lower.

You’re welcome.
Guy walks into a bar with a long pole and orders a drink. The bartender says “Are you a pole vaulter?” The guy says “Nein…I mean no…I’m German…but how did you know my name is ‘vahl-ter'”
Seattle City Light Superintendent Jorge Carrasco still insists all of these are/were “isolated inciden[ces].”
Man I hate being lied to.
Yes Geraldo, this is obviously a plot. You figured it out.

Dan loves poles; let him lick them (in between his relentlessly-tiring “I’m better than you” LiveJournal posts).
