Now that Occupy Seattle has rejected nonviolence at their demonstrations, they’ve also announced some upcoming events! Their first plan is to confront the police. What could go wrong? On Saturday, Occupy is holding a “Bring Down Diaz” march. They’ll meet at 23rd Avenue and East Union Street for a “speakout” about experiences with police brutality before marching to the East Precinct. From the event’s Facebook page: “Bring signs, your passion, and determination.”

They’re also working with other groups on two events next weekend around money in politics. Saturday, January 20 Seattle will join the nationwide Occupy the Courts day at the Federal Courthouse downtown. And then on Sunday, January 21 the coalition will hold a People Ignited Against Citizens United rally that will start at Westlake and then march to the Jackson Federal Building. Now we’re talking. Given that it’s primary season, Occupy Seattle and it’s coalition have picked a smart time to highlight Citizens United vs. FEC and the gross influence of money in politics.

  1. Just like Occupy Oakland, the protests are merging away from coporate personhood, wall street reform, tax inequality, etc. All energy and effort is now dedicated against the local police. Given how the Port of Seattle protest went, one can only imagine protests against the police are going to end in dozens of arrests.

  2. I saw them last week at the GA at the Convention Center.

A dozen of usual suspects being led in a discussion about cisgendered white males running Occupy Seattle, all led by a fat, weepy mulato tranny.

So basically the world’s smallest circle jerk.

  3. What does police brutality have to do with the growing disparity between the rich and middle classes?

Next they’ll be outside McDonalds to protest the fleeting existence of the McRib.

  4. @6 “world’s smallest circle jerk” is patently unfair. and shows how you turn a deaf ear to their earnest pleadings.

it’s doubtful they are the world’s smallest.

  5. As austerity measures begin to grip the citizens, police take the place of bosses and mortgage loan officers to exert social control. That’s the link between police brutality and economic disparity
