Yes, if you want a shitty warped board, you go to Home Depot and pay very little, and get very little. If you want a nice piece of wood, nice and straight, with interesting grain and knots, no holes, and eighteen inches wide, you’ll pay more. You can’t get eighteen inches wide at Home Despot. What is that, alder? You’d pay more at a woodworking shop.

Based on their apparent clientele (or lack thereof, since every time I walk by that place there’s never more than two people inside – and I have to assume at least one of them works there), whomever shells out $250 for that slab of wood is more likely to throw it up on a wall, thinking it’s supposed to be some sort of enviro-art sculpture piece than use it to restore an antique table top.

You could go to Urban Hardwoods and purchase a similar piece of salvaged wood for $500. plus, if they will even sell it to you.
